Music Performance & Songwriting

I’m one of those singer/songwriter/guitarist types, slinging a well-traveled acoustic and drawing ears in coffee shops and tiny bars/clubs. It’s been a while since I was actively gigging, but it’s something I very much enjoy.

I play a moody, introspective yet uplifting brand of acoustic rock, with a voice that can fill a room. My sound has been described as a cross between Barenaked Ladies (but less jokey), John Mayer (but less jazzy and wussy) and Duncan Sheik (but I’m taller).

I’ve been a musician since high school, when a friend suggested I buy a bass guitar and start a band with him. Our scrappy five-piece attempted to play hard rock, but a recent unearthing of ancient recordings reveals something more akin to the Misfits, jagged, raw and noisy. I followed that up as lead vocalist in an unfortunately-named metal band, then took a spin through a couple failure-to-launch CCM acts.

In college, I co-founded the Edwardsville, IL based alternative rock outfit Kessel Run (a popular band name, as it turns out), as guitarist, backing vocalist and primary songwriter. K-Run (as we tended to call ourselves) kicked around the Illinois side of the river for a few years, playing bars, events, colleges and winning a couple ‘battle of the bands’ contests. We only managed one lo-fi demo and a decent live recording before dissolving amicably. We carried a small but devoted fan-base, and have reunited a few times for charity events and parties.

Post Kessel Run, I “went solo”, happy to focus on my own vocals and interpretations of my songs. The college band was our go at the rockstar dream – this is the musical outlet for my creative energies and the thrill of performance.

There are no shows currently scheduled – maybe I should do something about that…
