My January underground wrapped up this week without a great deal of creative activity. I had a couple of nights of decent productivity, but I’m still having trouble staying awake at the keyboard past 10:00pm.
I have been toying with something new on my lunch breaks at Starbucks. I think it spawned as a result of my reading “The Cthulhu Mythos” by August Derleth, and feeling like I could do better. Derleth was a contemporary of H.P. Lovecraft (kind of the Stan Lee …

My “underground” month continues, though the last two weeks without the benefit of being on vacation. I’ve learned an important lesson in these 14 days: I am not one of those “write my best stuff at 2:00am” nocturnal writers. I am way more productive in the typical 9-to-5, probably as a side effect of working that for years.
Now that I’m back in my daily work routine, I’ve generally been fitting an hour or two in a night, between 8:00pm and midnight. My …

My week’s vacation from work is over and the first quarter of my January “underground” is done.
Late in ’06, I decided to get my creative projects in gear by taking January and throwing myself headlong into the process, swearing off my social life and cuddling up to my new laptop. I burned a handful of vacation days so that I could take the first week of the month off. My plan was to spend about 2/3 of my time writing and the …

Here’s another round of random bloggings:
. Pro Evo – I got this book today in the mail called ProEvo: Pro Evolution – Guideline for an Age of Joy. I’ve never heard of it, didn’t order, don’t know where it came from, other than it was plastic wrapped with an insert that mentioned the mysterious “Foundation”.
Googling the book, and it’s author, Tomotom Stiflung, only led me to a string of other blogs of people who had received the …

Here’s a few random-ish observations – a bloggin’ catch-all.
. Heroes – I was super excited to see the premiere of Heroes on NBC this past Monday. Advance word was really positive, and the premise sounded like a cousin to J. Michael Straczynski’s turbulent but often brilliant comic maxi-series Rising Stars. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very thrilled with the pilot. There’s some intriguing ideas happening in it, but it struck me as NBC’s attempt at a Lost styled fanta-drama (that’s a new word, folks, …

The flavored water-ish distributor has a health-oriented image to maintain, (you know, that’s why they aligned themselves with rapstar 50 Cent – feuding with other rappers and getting shot 9 times just screams healthy) so a “fat” Clarkson was unsuitable for their campaign.
Beyond her considerable singing abilities, I admire Kelly for …

I’ve not been an active blogger for a little bit, so here’s some random catching up:
. I went to Mexico recently, on a business trip. Stayed at a fancy 5 star all inclusive resort. Went to meetings, had a sports massage, did a little swimming, drank tequila and hung with my Emmis Interactive peeps from all over the nation. Good times. Special note: when you don’t want to return from Mexico looking like a lobster, look to Neutrogena SPF 45 spray on sunblock. It’s …

I’ve had a movie-filled couple of days, capped by a really fun movie called “Stick It”, the tale of a ridiculously rebellious but very talented gymnast who is forced to re-enter the sport after she bails on championships and repeatedly gets in trouble with the law. The story isn’t particularly original, but the movie is really quite funny, the characters are likeable (after the main character calms down a bit) and the stylized editing is entertaining. I’m sure critics won’t appreciate it, but if …

Today’s pseudo-celebrity run-in: the alternative/emo band Hawthorne Heights.
You may be asking, “Who?” To be honest, I don’t really know either. But I do know they’re hip with the indie kids. I think I’ve seen their shirts at Hot Topic. They’re in town tonight to do a show with Fall Out Boy – the band developing a reputation (with anyone over 18 or that have been to more than 3 concerts ever) as the group that manages to sell out every show whilst being notoriously …

For those of you that don’t know about my day job, my work at the radio station has exposed me to a string of minor, up-and-coming and pseudo celebrities and rock stars. The notable include Rob Thomas, Korn, Joe Satriani and Breaking Benjamin (see my photos). The not-so-much pile consists of Playboy Playmates, various Howard Stern cast members and alternative knock off bands (anybody remember Earshot? Sounded like Tool? No, not Chevelle, but just like that…)
Today I met (albeit briefly) an honest-to-goodness Red Carpet …
